End of Days

Easter Egg - The “DALLAS” Tatt on Henkl’s back, I have on my ribcage. It’s my Dad’s name, and he tattooed it himself on his forearm when he was 17. We both came through cancer a couple years ago, and I got a replica of his tatt done then.

THANKS! A long-overdue shout-out to Bucci for helping me to pimp out this strip, get me hooked up with colour for it, and being an all-round good shit when it comes t’helping. To my shame, he had to point this out to me. Bucci, we might not always like each other, but we allus love each other. Y’got a heart as big as all git-out, y’sweet, mannerless, stompy bastard.

Seems to me that Hurricane Katrina was the tipping-point for a lot of people’s awareness of how badly off the environment has gotten. The last two years, it, and Bush, have been the main topics of conversation.
Kind of frustrating for the lot of us that smelled Bush a mile off, and knew that the environment was going pear-shaped a long time ago. Have to say that I’m in Henkl’s camp here - just don’t know if people are willing to sacrifice the level of indulgence and comfort we have to sustain what’s left. Waaay back when I was 11 and in 4-H (Health, Home, somethingsomething…horticulture?), my speech was about the environment and in my l’il mind, things were very black & white: Trees good - people bad. Dunno that I’ve swayed too much from that mindset, pretty mellow guy with other issues, but shitting in our own nests makes me see red (Not being self-righteous, faithful reader, I need to clean up my act too, as Ian tells me in panel 3).
Anyways, I remember the fact I quoted in my speech that scared the hell out of my 11 year-old, 1983 brain, and that was that scientists estimated by the turn of the century, 3 species a DAY would become extinct. Well, it’s 2007 and the U.N. released the news last month that 3 species an HOUR (!!!) are going the way of the Dodo. Reading that was a kick in the gut for me, and this comic, in my own feeble way, sort of expresses my panicky feeling that things are starting to unravel hella fast…
